Republic Day

This is the holiday where they go on about Ataturk and democrary, as an antidote to all the religious bayrams, like the one that we had last week. Kas celebrates it in style with lots of noise and marching in the morning and a big street party in the evening, unique in Turkey. During the boring "protocols" Steve was presented with prize for being the runner up in the second annual tennis competition. He won it last year, but was not exactly thrilled about coming runner up this time. He puts his defeat in the final down to not being allowed to have a fag break during the match. Later Simon came to inspect progress on the building site. He was up early because the brass band outside his bedroom window had disturbed his beauty sleep.
