Start of the Season.

Our season starts early this year with groups already here and more arriving today for the Solar Eclipse on the 29th. But, of course, we are still working daily on the build. Pics are: 1. of the whole site on Friday. We thought that the mound behind the site would be the hard fill for our foundations (after all it was excavated from the site) but Hasan has instructed the team to use the left-overs from the stone masonry on other sites (much less earth and loose material therefore even more stable). our left-overs will be employed elsewhere. 2. Dinner with Dave and Sue and their friend Madhav the actor. This was his last night and we really enjoyed having him around for the last two weeks.
3. The steel work for the foundations. Arif (the foreman) particularly wanted us to see this as there are 12 strands of steel (the norm is 8 or 9), again done on Hasan's special instructions to make the building strong. Arif says these foundations could support 10 storeys. 4. The steel work for the foundations fnished ready for the concrete on Monday morning (another 40 tonnes or 5 truck loads). This batch will come up to the level of the wooden guides. When this sets the wooden guides will be raised and another load will complete the foundations up to the level of the vertcal steel struts. Then the hard fill goes in. After which we are ready for the 30 cm concrete floor. The plan is still to have the superstructure up by the beginning of next month...5. Cem helping with tile research. Aliso wanted to re-visit another villa on the penisula to see whether the grey tile they were using in 1 bathroom was the same as her concept for the floor of 2 bathroooms in ours.
