Materials and Foundation Preparations

Two meetings with the Tandem team today. In the morning Alison, Jodie and I looked at the materials that we have to choose; including tiles (for floors, bathrooms and pool), wood, upvc for the windows. In the afternoon Jodie, Nazim and I discussed structural changes based on the conversations that we've all had so far. The upshot is that we have abandoned the idea of having an open roof over the master bedroom, but will definitely go ahead with the open roof in the full height dining area. They liked the idea of cancelling the side balcony on the 5th bedroom and in it's place building a sun terrace facing the sea from this room that will provide shade for the front of the children's lounge and side of the kitchen beneath. Kindly they offered to asborb the costs for this change and gave us a price to construct stone arches on the lower perimeter of this space. We shall think about this. Also Tandem gave us our copy of the submitted project (samples of the 32 page submission in the pics). Other pics show the completed concrete for the pool and the preparations for the concrete in the foundations. The concrete for the pool is done. The gaps at the end and side are for semi-circular bits that jut out to create steps (end) and seating (side). The horizontal steel struts in the foundations are partly in place. Concrete will be filled to the height of the wooden troughs. The spaces in between will be filled with hard core. On top of this will be a 30 cm concrete floor. The reason that there is no-one on site is because the pics where taken on a friday morning which is the halfday off the workers get a week. Friday is market day and Friday Noon prayer is the most important of the week for the religiously observant. A labourer earns about 30 YTL per day, a skilled craftsman about 50 YTL.
