II. International Kas- Kastellorizo Swimming and Sea-Kayak Race

The second annual Castellorizon (Megisti) to Kas sea-kayak and swimming competition took place this morning. Here is the scene at 10 O'Clock at Elit Beach in Kas as we wait for the first kayakkers to get in. We sat with Dave, Sue and Simon. The distance from harbour to harbour is 7.5 km. The fastest kayakkers (3rd pic) did it in 43 mins (3 mins faster than last year) and the fastest swimmer did it in 1 hour 38 mins (7 mins faster than last year). He's swimming towards the parasailer between the white round buoy and the safety boat. There was a lot more media interest with at least 3 television crews covering the event. The Greek Mayor joined his Turkish counterparts in the prize-giving ceremony. There were 8 members of our staff competing and one of the swimmers was a 71 year old Brit called Selwyn who arrived just as the awards were being given who did it in a little than 3 and a 1/2 hours.
Later Dave and Sue came to inspect the building...
